Last Saturday the Husby and I went to Arundel Mills to shop, and we dedicated the whole day to doing just that. I have been there once with Fairy God-sister before when she was here, and I was in awe at the size of the shopping mall.
What is so special about this place anyway? Picture this large one storey shopping mall filled with maybe a hundred stores! It is different from the Towson Town Center that I have been to because there are Old Navy, Gap and H&M outlets stores. Yipee! I always love getting a good deal from outlet stores! This is the one place I can imagine bringing some of my girlfriends too as they have Levi's outlet store, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Victoria's Secret. Plus it was the Memorial Day weekend, which meant more sales and great deals! =))
We spent a total of 7 hours at the mall, from 1130 to 1830. In between we watched Shrek 3 at one of those mega cinemas with 24 theatres; it also gave us a chance to rest our tired feet. At the end of the day, after bagging 5 bottoms, 5 tops and 2 baking materials between the Husby and I, we were done! The damage? Well, let's just say I don't think I can shop anymore this month! Hahaha, but the month is coming to an end... Phew! *rubbing my hands in anticipation*
The fun part of the day was to figure out how to get there, and back. The easy way out was to take a cab, which would set us back by $35 each way; ouch! Did you feel that pinch?? It was simply painful to part with that money which could be put to better use (read shopping!). So we took a bus, followed by the light rail, and a bus again - it took us TWO HOURS just to get there! But thinking of the savings we made - a day pass per person costs $3.50, it is well worth it.
It was an adventure too, to take the light rail. When we went to Washington DC we took the MARC train, and we also took the Metro to Owing Mills; now we have finally taken the light rail. The latter probably runs on electricity and it operates at the street level. This means you will see these tracks on the roads, and the light rail running side-by-side with the cars on the street. One key difference from Singapore's very own MRT is if you wanted to board the light rail, you need to press the green button, otherwise the doors remain closed. Once you are onboard, you look for a seat; there is no one to check your ticket! It makes me wonder how many people actually pay for these rides.
What made the journey memorable were the people coming up to ask us for directions, when in actual fact we were equally confused! I guess taking the light rail is not a popular mode of transport around here, and the people who approached us must have been first-timers too. I wonder if we gave anyone the wrong directions! =P
Left: The light rail approaching
Right: There was no shelter at the station, hence you see our shadows on the railway tracks beneath us
Not much scenery along the journey: passing over waters and into the wilderness
Sunset on our journey home... What a long day!
