The one thing I am terrified of drivers here are those who talk on their cell phones as they drive, or think they are driving. How can they be concentrating on the roads? Thus as a pedestrian, I constantly am aware of the fact that there are such drivers around, and I should just check before crossing the roads even if the light is in my favour. I would not want to become just another statistic!
