This evening, I was seated at my desk which was by the window. It was noisy down below at the street level, but I did not bother to look out the window since it sounded like a bunch of rowdy boys passing by. Nothing out of the extraordinary since people here seem to talk loudly as they walk along the street. *annoying!*
The Husby took a peek out the window, and realised about five African-American boys in their early teens had surrounded a white guy. When I looked out, the boys had ran off, and all the other passer-by were rushing to help the guy. It was difficult to get a clear view through the foliage; the victim did not seemed injured to me, but he was touching his head like he was hurt. Someone then called the police. By the time they arrived the boys were long gone, and even the guy had walked a distance away. Since he did not seem to want to make a report, this could have indicated that he was not robbed, but perhaps pushed around by the boys.
This incident is scaring me; it was just right outside our apartment. Plus it was in broad daylight with people on the streets as well. Now the important task would be to find a safe and affordable neighborhood to move to when our lease is up. If only it was that easy to find an apartment that satisfys both two criterion!
