It all started when my sister had one; when I found out that it had fortune-telling powers, I was drawn to it. Even though I proclaim that science is my passion, there is no denying that there is always room for "divine answers" (Of course, always room for dessert too!). It is just like the horoscopes, you know that it is so general that it could apply to everyone, but a part of you feels compelled to read it and subconsciously figure out how it may apply to your life. As for the Magic 8-ball, you are suppose to hold the ball with the window down, ask a questions that had required a Yes/No answer, and turn it over to find out your fate.
But horrors of horrors, whenever I asked questions like "am I fat?", the answer was mostly affirmative! Then I found out why recently. The dice in the ball that is floating in the blue liquid has 20 faces, and there are ten variations of answers with "Yes", five are ambiguous, and five are related to "No". Hey, no wonder the
I think the answers available are cute, like "Better not tell you now" or "Reply hazy, try again". These days there are sites showing how they take apart the Magic 8-ball to uncover its secrets. Here are two links: <Link1> <Link2> There are also variations of this old toy (It was invented in 1946!), like those here [No offence to any religion]. I definitely like the Simpson's version of the Magic 8-ball, with answers like D-oh, what's not to love about it? Not to mention the Shrek 2 Magic 8-ball, Care bears and Muppets too! Apparently, there is one for the ubiquitous iPod too. So see, there are no excuses for sitting on the fence now.
Have fun asking questions on the Magic 8-ball!
Am I fat? *As I see it, yes* *You may rely on it* Aiya, why can't it just say no?? If I own one, I may just smash it to a million pieces eventually!
