Random ramblings:
Lacrosse: I have never heard of this sport until I came here, and it is a big thing! The statues on the right can be found at the Hopkins Homewood campus, and that is how the netted stick used in the game looks like. You can find out more about it here since I am no expert and I still have not figured out how the game is played. The Hopkins Blue Jays is the champion this year!
- Writing the date: In Singapore, we write it as the day/month/year. Here it is the month/day/year. It is so annoying!
- Writing my name: It is like I have a new name! It is no longer TYS, but YST. After a while, it makes me confused as to which is my first and last name.
- Tipping: I sometimes forget when I have to tip. Do I have to do it when I buy something? Meals yes, taxi driver yes, hair cuts yes. That should be the basic rule that I must get into my head.
- Crossing the road: I am bad at crossing roads to being with; coming here has made it worse. When I want to cross the road, I look right, see no car, and happily step onto the road. BAD MOVE! The cars are coming from the other side, ie from my left hand side! Imagine the horror. Therefore to cross the roads here, one should check on the left, right and probably left again - do not be like me!
- Measurements: These are killing me! Especially when asked on forms for my height in feet. I have not a foggiest idea then! (It is 5 feet 2 inches - so short leh) Or how my weight ballooned to hit 100... pounds and more. The only good thing about pounds is that you feel you lose weight faster, for 1 pound = 0.5 kg, which does not sound as impressive as a whole number.
