Mt Vernon I

These photos were taken last weekend as we went to explore another supermarket at the Mt Vernon area. I finally stopped dragging my feet to post them up! More information can be found here.

The Washington Monument:
This tall column where a statue of George Washington sits on the top was the first landmark of America's urban skyline and first monument to honour Washington. The monument also placed Baltimore on the world map, and hence the street was named "Monument street". One can climb all the way up to the top for a view of the city! (We were too lazy to climb the 200 plus steps; another day perhaps!) Insert: At the base of the monument.

Four bronze statues portraying qualities associated with General Washington were set up around the Washington Monument - War, Peace, Force and Order. Hmm... He is associated with force?

The road surrounding the monument is made of cobblestones, and bricks. I wonder if the cobblestones are preserved from the past!

Just around the corner is the Walters Art Museum, and its free admission now!

Mt Vernon Place Methodist Church: one gothic looking church!

Soon after we took the photo above, the clouds disappeared, and the sun appeared...

Statue of George Peabody and the Peabody Conservatory of Music:
Here lies Friedberg Hall where concerts and operas are held. We came here once to attend a symphony orchestra and watched our house mate play the cello (She's studying at the Peabody Institute).

Further up ahead is the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the hospital.

Same view, taken tonight...
