It was a good thing I was reading the news today, and this was how I found out that the daylight savings for this year has started earlier! For those who are not familiar, here is the definition on Wikipedia:
"Daylight saving time (DST), also known as summer time in British English, is the convention of advancing clocks so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour in late winter or early spring and are adjusted backward in autumn."
Typically this takes place the first Sunday of April, but due to Energy Policy Act 2005, the US Congress change the timings to help reduce engergy consumption. Starting this year, DST will start second Sunday of March in USA and Canada. But this does not apply to Hawaii and Arizona - they run on standard time whole year round. I can imagine the chaos this may create, people being late for work tomorrow and wondering why the bus schedules have changed, and worse, getting confused for plane timings.
So as I set all the clocks have to move an hour forward, I am now on a 12-hour difference with Singapore and 14-hour difference with Brisbane. I find this whole business with DST a hassle, but soon it will be forgotten... till the first Sunday of November! Then I will move all the clocks one hour back again. Always remember: spring forward, fall back!
