National bohemian beer, or affectionately known as Natty Boh to locals in Baltimore, was first brewed in Baltimore in 1885. Today the beer is brewed in North Carolina, but you can get it pretty much everywhere else. Mr Boh, the round face with one eye and handlebar mustachioed adoring the can is a common icon in Maryland; I wonder why does he only have one eye! Does he remind you of Pringles?
It is interesting that one cannot find beer or any liquor in supermarkets in Baltimore city, instead you have to go to liquor stores to get your supplies of booze. In fact there are laws regulating the sale of alcoholic drinks, which differs from state to state. In Baltimore city, the stores are not permitted to open on Sundays - tough luck if you forget to buy any bubbly beverages to keep your guests happy on Sunday gatherings!
Walking into a liquor store is quite an experience too I must say! The large stores are simply like supermarkets, except all the aisles are displayed with bottled or canned beers, endless red and white wines and all sorts of hard liquor; you name it, they probably have it!
Back to the story about Natty Boh, well, he is still sitting in the fridge so I haven't a clue how the beer tastes like. Will try it soon and post again!
