The unexpected
When life gives you the unexpected, you just got to bite the bullet and go on with it.
Like how we woke up one morning last week to hear the arrival of an expected guest. Extremely loud chirping greeted us, from of all places, the kitchen hood exhaust. That could only signify bad news - a bird is trapped inside! The poorthing! For two days it was chirping loudly while we tried to figure out a solution. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck it out? But will we kill it in the process?? Then uh-oh, it went quiet. The optimist in us hoped that the bird has gotten out of the exhaust, but alas, the worst has happened. This morning the Husby woke up to what he describes as a stinky salted fish smell, while I thank my lucky stars for having a bad sense of smell. In the end Ian came by in the evening and the guys worked their magic to pull the bird out. FOUR to be exact. Don't know how or when they got there, but the sight of two maggots on the stove is haunting me. I am so not gonig to cook this week.
Or like how another bill came for medical I had last week. This one reads "Amount due $366" WHAT! I already paid $221. Sigh, unexpected medical bills are no fun. Then I heard a story of how two visits to the ER came up to $10,000. Okay now, in comparison I feel that $581 is no biggie.
Take the H1N1 flu as another example. Who would have thought it would reach this level. It freaks me out a little when I think of the almost twenty hours I will be flying, in three different planes no less, all packed with people from all over the place. For once, getting on the plane is no fun. My parents are terribly worried and I can understand why, but I got to do what I need to do...
And now the school says we have to get these two text books, and freak, each costs at least $150. I am so broke that I will be eating grass back in Singapore. So if we are meeting in Sg, let's eat at the corner kopitiam okay? But wait, maybe I will not be able to eat, because my wisdom tooth is acting up. Sigh, bad luck this month or what! With all these additional expenses and the upcoming visit to the dentist and only one last paycheck to go from Hopkins, it is upsetting and unnerving.
Anyway, I feel better now after writing all these here. Dear Life, please stop throwing me any more curve balls this month! And to the birds, rest in peace in bird heaven where it will be nice and warm without the need to go into a kitchen hoods.
