Day two was spent downtown, gawking at the buildings, river, lake and parks. We had a good time on the combined lake and river cruise, which was a great way to see the architecture. There are also many bridges spanning the river, and just in case you are curious, you can see how it looks like beneath one of them! The cruise took us out to Lake Michigan, which involves waiting for the lock raise or lower the boat between the river and lake. The bottom most photograph is that of the Chicago skyline from Lake Michigan.

I bet you already knew that the Chicago River is dyed green on Saint Patrick's day, but did you know that the flow of the river has been reversed? According to Wikipedia, "...the river is notable for the 19th century civil engineering feats that directed its flow south, away from Lake Michigan, into which it previously emptied, and towards the Mississippi River basin. This was done for reasons of sanitation."

Can you spot our reflections in the Cloud Gate Sculpture (also known as the Bean) in Millennium Park? Buckingham Fountain was also a big tourist attraction.
