We spent two nights in Manhattan at Hotel Edison which was a decent and central location - right smack in Times Square. Doggy fragrance anyone, from Juicy Couture no less, and dinner at Bubba Gump? I am too cheap to pay for the cruise to see the Statue of Liberty, and that was the already zoomed-in view from Battery Park on a very windy afternoon. At least we got to see another Statue at the M&Ms store!
Unfortunately for us, the weather was dreary and wet for most part. You see a different side of Times Square which you will never find in any visitor's guide book! We spent some time exploring the New York Museum of Natural History; look, I touched a real dino egg! Ha, though I must admit it looks more like dino poo than anything else.

After the museum, we walked through Central Park from the 82th Street to the 57th Street even though the weather was what I would consider super depressing. I am surprised I love the park in winter too. You can see a reflection of the Violet One (Oh, so mean of me to crop her off! Sorry about it WJ!) and a self-portrait of you-know-who (do I look like those crazy bag ladies??)

When in New York, you got to try the pizza! It is my favorite style, the thin crusted ones, and we picked John's Pizzeria on the 44th Street to savour their brick-oven pizza. Very yummy I must say!
We also went to the Washington DC Zoo after we returned from NYC as we did not make it to the Central Park zoo. The highlight of it all was to see the Giant Pandas, and we were not disappointed. Compared to the zoo we have in Singapore, this is a fairly small collection of animals. However, the best part was that it was free-of-charge! I was rather sad to see the gorilla in their indoor cages; if you peer carefully, you can see it seated high up on a branch in one of the photographs, looking so bored. And I never expected prairie dogs to be so small, definitely smaller than most dogs!
On New Year's eve, the Violet One and I also ventured into the heart of Washington DC to see all the monuments. I loved the reflections of the Washington Monument in the Reflection Pool! Plus I am very excited to visit the Tidal Basin come spring to admire all the pretty blossoms - will post more photos then!
