I realised early morning of July 18th Sunday that I could not find my mobile phone, the slim candy bar cell that we got two Sept back. It was not in my bag, not in the car, not anywhere in the house. The last I recall holding it was getting into the car at Towson, and we made a fruitless trip in my desperate attempt to retrieve it. It was not that I really loved my phone, for when the contract would be up next month, we are likely to get another model. Rather I hated the idea of getting all the contacts again, and now having to spend money due to my own carelessness. Everyone joked that this was my own birthday present to myself, and I was resigned to the fate of never seeing it again.
Then on Tuesday July 20th, someone called the Husby and said he had my phone! He lived just around our area, and I must have dropped it getting out of the car (in a hurry, but that is another long story). On our way to pick it up, I had questioned the possibility of this person asking for a reward in exchange of the phone. How much do we give for something like this? The Husby, less cynical, decided that getting a dozen donuts was the best option. It turned out to be a family with two little girls and one very furry dog. That night I reflected on how little faith I had in people, that I should hold some in higher esteem, this city may not be as bad as many make it out to be.
You can say all that is lost after what happened to Steve. I have been following the news reports. I have also been in contact with some of my friends who are still in the lab. I am worried about H and L. M called me the morning they were going to the memorial. She started crying halfway through, saying how this makes her appreciate her friends and family so much more. Her words have been on my mind a lot. How I have often taken so many things for granted, impatient and not caring about the process, only wanting to get to the end result.
Maybe it is time to switch gears, take things easier, and enjoy the journey and the sunshine.

You can never tell what will happen. Sometimes, the pessismist in you will triumph. Equally often, you'll be proven wrong and cheer blankets you. Live in the now and appreciate the living. Hugs, lots.
I know - it was so sobering to hear about Steve through you, and also after Simian's accident. It made me realise we should really appreciate being here with the people we love.
And there are definitely good people in Bmore - it's just the few assholes that make it horrible.
PS Not that Bmore is horrible, but it can sometimes feel that way when you hear stories like Steve's.
Imp: very true, who knows what tomorrow will bring so better enjoy and live today.
Dawn: After reading about that incident on yr blog it really scared me too. Bmore might have its charms, but it definitely has its very dark side.
