The long weekend

Finally, here is the super long update of last weekend, it took me so long to upload and sort the photos...

Yujie flow into Washington Dulles Airport on last Thursday evening, and we drove to pick her up. As it was a rather long journey from Baltimore to the airport, we all had dinner really late. But it was good stuff at Peking Gourmet Inn, or perhaps I have not had duck for ages! Check out the walls lined with photographs of famous people who have dined there, including Bush Senior. $38 peking duck anyone?

On Friday Dawn treated us to lunch Iggy's, then Yujie and I went to explore Inner Harbor, followed by Artscape, probably the largest street festival I have ever been to. There were many stalls selling all things artsy, as well as food. I think the art cars were cool!

There was also the Heartbreak cafe, which I definitely am not interested to go into! (I realised my shadow looks so odd, because I am wearing a hat!). And at this station where they had paper and scissors to cut out anything you like and stick it on the wall, Yujie and I each made a little something. Do you like my giant ring?? (Psst, there is a pretty girl behind her butterfly)

Late Saturday morning, we hopped over to Baugher's to pick peaches, only to find out apricots were in season too. Hurray! Apricots are my favourites! Look Dawn, one perfect peach in my basket!

Then I met a stranger on the farm; he came with this basket full of apricots, and said all of them were for me! ;)

Beautiful peaches, combined effort of Yujie, the Husby and yours truly. The fun thing about this farm is that you get to take the tractor up the hill to the peach trees. You can spot the elderly driver posing in the photo - when we arrived at the orchard, we asked him what time he would be back and he replied "in three days"! What else do you do with peaches but to bake try to bake a peach crumbs pie, and you can see the pretty slices of peaches arranged by Yujie. Sadly, there was nothing to rave about the pie. Do you think the blueberry muffins look yummy?

Sunday: We drove all the way to Silver Spring with hopes of having a dim sum brunch, but to our dismay the place had a power failure! Thank goodness we recalled the route to Penang at Bethsda, where we ended up for a late lunch of six delicious dishes. In my opinion, the Penang Char Kway Teow is to die for, better than most I ever had in Singapore! Gotta trust me on this, I did grow up eating the real dish! And this is my best squirrel photo ever, no editing what so ever, isn't it so cute? The photos were taken at Federal Hill, with the wonderful view of the Inner Harbor. Here is one of Yujie and me!

And then the Husby had to bake my chocolate lava /fondant cupcakes!.They were really yummy by the way, just what I like. See my smiley face "cake" and look how the "nose" transformed! Lots of cupcakes to live up to my new motto! Thank you Husby dear, can I have them again next year? *with innocent eyes*

On Monday morning Yujie left for Washington DC (We hope you had fun my dear!), and off I went to work. My colleagues were really so sweet, they brought me out to lunch at Fells Point. This was the first time I have eaten out with my lab, what can I say, we are all a hardworking bunch! One group photo for keepsake! (That is just half the lab) In addition, they also bought an ice cream cake for tea! They are really a great bunch to work with, and having good colleagues is all so important to me. I also received four chocolates, one scarf, one frog cup, and a pair of earrings! What can I say, they really like me! ;)) Thank you dear lab mates!

And in the evening, the Husby and I went to visit Dawn at their new place, it is really big and pretty! Monica and George was there for dinner too, and brought a delicious cake from Wholefoods. Thanks Dawn and Ian, Monica and George, that was a great dinner and cake!

There you have it, haphazardly presented my super long weekend! Thanks once again everyone, for making my birthday a lovely one, filling it with warm wishes, surprises, emails and gifts. It brings a warm glow to my heart, and everytime I look at these photos, they never fail a smile to my face ;D What to do, I am one sentimental person!

Wow! Your husby can bake and those cuppies look yummy! CT will be able to bake some new flavoured cupcakes though (read: BURNT). =P
Now, if I were to tell him this, he will laugh and say that is not true but well, I know better. Better not cause my oven a premature death. Wahahaha. Looks like you had lots of fun! ;)
