What has life?

Steve is my replacement in the lab when I left last year. Tomorrow is his 24th birthday. Last year he and the others treated me to a birthday dinner at Fells Point. We organised Medha's baby shower together. He bought coffee for us the last time I went back to lab. He told us stories of how growing up in Florida was like, with a large lizard as a pet. Just last month, he drove Medha and I to Annapolis where the lab had a day out by the water. I saw how he brought the lab closer together. He is the world-renowned FAK expert. He once asked me how it would be like to study medicine in Singapore Duke University. He is applying to Med school at Hopkins and UMB.

I am greatly sadden by his sudden departure, in this terrible way.

Updated version: Hopkins researcher's promising life cut short in robbery.

This is like the worst thing that can happen, you click on the news link and read, only to come across a name that you know. Calls to friends only confirmed the worst.

26th St and St Pauls we used to walk by there all the time on our way to safeway. We lived just on the 29th.

Yes I am always afraid of losing friends and family. Before my birthday last week, I was worried sick about my grandma whom was thought to have a mini stroke, and then my uncle who was told by the doctor that his chances of survival was so long that he should now prepare for final rites. Who am I to think about my birthday then?

Death is a part of the equation of life. But I just may never get used to it. Life is so fragile isn't it?

So sorry to read this too - I had a real shock when I read about it in the Sun that he was from your old lab.

From your stories he seemed like a really nice guy too. Please take care.

Sorry to hear that dear.. Yes the shock that comes with losing someone you once knew, or seeing your loved ones lose someone dear to them is very great.. It happened to me when my childhood friend's father passed away suddenly, and I'd known him too since i used to play at her house quite often.. Don't let this get you down for too long ok?

Thanks Imp. I will never quite see that area in the same light again.

Thanks for calling Dawn.

Aki-chan, you are right, a lot of it is the shock at something so random and senseless.
