I had my first appraisal in the lab during the three month mark. That was really disappointing because it was all "meets expectations". Having previously worked in a lab where the boss was always generous in giving such grades, this was a huge disappointment. But the boss was right in doing so, I had not done much in the lab to earn a better grade.
On hindsight, that motivated me to work harder too, to prove that I am better than just meeting expectations. And so six months into the job, I found myself to be the only one running the lab for12 people. It was not easy, but it was way better than what I envisioned it to be.
And then there was my one year appraisal. I am overjoyed that it went well, which calls for a celebration! ;) This one year has been a really good experience, which gives me a lot of confidence to pursue what I know I can do, but am so afraid of doing it. Let's see how things go from here, after all, you are what you think!
PS. Another Singapore National Day has gone by! What was the most Singaporean thing we did the weekend? We made laksa; that counts right?
